Turkey's Tunceli announces the clearance of 3,272 mines in the first half of 2026
The governor of the Turkish province of Tunceli announced the clearance of 3,272 mines as part of the "Turkey Without Terrorism" campaign, in addition to the arrest of 820 wanted persons and the seizure of a number of drug and migrant smuggling cases during the first half of the year.
Tunceli Governor Safik Aygul held an extensive press conference on security, with the participation of Regional Gendarmerie Commander Major General Bulent Baykal and Regional Security Director Kazem Konay Demiralay.
Governor Aygul revealed that 3,272 mines had been cleared in the province as part of the “Turkey Without Terrorism” project.
He explained that 820 wanted people had been arrested and handed over to judicial authorities, with 6,034 facilities being inspected. A commercial building, a school, an abandoned building, and a park. 1,186 security incidents were recorded, 1,080 suspects were arrested, and 149 others were detained.
