The Istanbul Stock Exchange BIST 100 index closed 84.52 points lower compared to the close of the previous session, with a total trading volume of 152 billion Turkish liras.
The banking index fell by 1.17%, while the holding companies index rose by 0.65%. The mining sector rose the most by 3.53%, while the trade sector declined the most by 2.14%.
Global markets witnessed an early wave of selling, driven by escalating tension in the Middle East, which reinforced inflationary fears, in addition to signals from the minutes of the US Federal Reserve meeting about the possibility of taking more stringent monetary steps. However, the rise in technology stocks later in the day partially restored risk appetite to the markets.
Analysts are awaiting the release of domestic industrial production data tomorrow, the producer price index in Japan, and the consumer price index in Germany externally.
