The Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 probes have previously crossed these boundaries, providing humanity with the first direct data on the environment outside the sun’s protective bubble.
According to two new studies published by researchers fromSouthwest Research Institute, the arrival of New Horizons to these limits may occur as early as 2029 or as late as 2040, and this large discrepancy is due to the fact that the heliosphere is constantly moving depending on the change in the activity of the sun. The researchers believe that the probe may cross these borders more than once, because it is not like a fixed wall.
