Twenty-four people died in southwestern Nigeria’s Ondo State after consuming a locally produced herbal beverage, while others were taken to hospital with suspected poisoning, according to reports in Nigerian media.

The cases were recorded in Araromi Obu and Odigbo, where health and security officials began collecting samples and investigating the drink’s ingredients, production and storage conditions.

Local authorities temporarily suspended the sale and consumption of this type of beverage in the two towns as a precaution, stressing that the precise cause of the deaths had not yet been established.

Saudi authorities said 73 civilians, including women and children, were injured in Houthi attacks on cities and civilian and economic facilities in the south of the kingdom, according to Saudi media.

Published footage showed damage to homes and buildings in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jizan and Najran, while fires were reported at several locations following the attacks.

The Saudi Energy Ministry said operations at some oil facilities were temporarily suspended until fires were controlled and damage assessments completed. Initial information did not specify the duration or production impact.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio launched a sharp attack on the International Criminal Court, describing it as a harmful force against US sovereignty and calling for it to be shut down.

Rubio said: "Today it threatens every aspect of our political and legal system. It also targets border patrol officers who deport violent criminals from our country, and it targets American Marines who risked their lives defending our homeland."

Kenneth Roth, the former executive director of Human Rights Watch, responded in comments to CNN International, saying: "The International Criminal Court does not claim any jurisdiction over acts inside the United States."
