Twenty-four people died in southwestern Nigeria’s Ondo State after consuming a locally produced herbal beverage, while others were taken to hospital with suspected poisoning, according to reports in Nigerian media.

The cases were recorded in Araromi Obu and Odigbo, where health and security officials began collecting samples and investigating the drink’s ingredients, production and storage conditions.

Local authorities temporarily suspended the sale and consumption of this type of beverage in the two towns as a precaution, stressing that the precise cause of the deaths had not yet been established.

Iranian state television reported explosion sounds in waters near Qeshm Island and off Sirik and Minab in southern Iran, with no immediate report of casualties or damage.

Hormozgan provincial authorities said the sounds heard on Qeshm came from the sea and that relevant agencies were still investigating their source and nature.

Iranian officials have not issued a final account linking the sounds to a specific incident. No independent confirmation of an attack at the reported locations was immediately available, leaving the early details subject to change.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio launched a sharp attack on the International Criminal Court, describing it as a harmful force against US sovereignty and calling for it to be shut down.

Rubio said: "Today it threatens every aspect of our political and legal system. It also targets border patrol officers who deport violent criminals from our country, and it targets American Marines who risked their lives defending our homeland."

Kenneth Roth, the former executive director of Human Rights Watch, responded in comments to CNN International, saying: "The International Criminal Court does not claim any jurisdiction over acts inside the United States."
