President of the Turkish Furniture Union: The NATO summit opens new opportunities and the sector targets $12 billion in exports by 2030
Hussein Taklaji, head of the Turkish Federation of Wood Shop Owners and Unions, confirmed that the NATO summit in Ankara will open new cooperation opportunities for the furniture sector, especially in supplying wood products to the defense industry, noting that net exports amounted to $4.6 billion last year and the goal is $12 billion by 2030.
Hussein Taklaji, President of the Turkish Federation of Wood Shop Owners and Trade Unions (TAİF), confirmed that the new cooperation opportunities resulting from the NATO summit held in Ankara will also contribute to supporting the Turkish furniture sector.
Taklaji explained that the sector can play a greater role in supplying wood products used in the defense industries in particular, noting that the NATO summit brings together 40 countries with a total economic size of about 70 trillion dollars, which provides important strategic opportunities for the Turkish economy.
He pointed out that the summit represents a strategic platform for export-based growth and international cooperation for the furniture sector, pointing to the importance of foreign exchange earnings for the balance of the current account and the labor market.
Taklaji explained that Turkish furniture is currently exported to more than 200 countries around the world, and that the sector ended last year with exports exceeding $8 billion, while exports of the furniture, paper and forest products group amounted to $8.4 billion during the year. 2025.
