A scientific study on the seismic analysis of the 6.1-magnitude Sindargi earthquakes, which occurred on August 10 and October 27, 2025, was published in the journal Seismological Research Letters, one of the scientific journals classified in the first category (Q1) in earth sciences.
The study was conducted under the leadership of the Center for Earthquake Research and Applications at Dokuz Eyl University, with the participation of the Faculty of Engineering, the Institute of Marine Science and Technology, and the Vocational Institute in Izmir, in addition to Researchers from Kutahya Dumlupinar and Zonguldak Bulent Ecevit Universities, and the General Directorate for Earthquake Risk Reduction of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
In the study, which began immediately after the main tremors, researchers used geomatic engineering methods, satellite imaging, remote sensing, and seismology techniques, and concluded that the fault that caused the earthquakes had “reactivated,” and that the two earthquakes had rare “hybrid” characteristics.
