Turkey to exhume former intelligence officer to determine cause of death
Prosecutors ordered the grave of former intelligence officer Kasif Kozinoglu, who died in prison in 2011, to be opened for a new forensic examination.
Prosecutors in Silivri ordered the grave of former Turkish intelligence officer Kasif Kozinoglu to be opened on September 11, 2026. The procedure aims to establish his exact cause of death and determine whether any third party was involved in his death in prison in 2011.
The exhumation will take place under a specialist panel of three forensic doctors, a chemist and an autopsy technician. Bone, soil and other samples will be collected for medical and criminal analysis.
The samples will be assessed alongside prison security footage, emergency call records and hospital documents. Investigators hope the combined evidence will provide a more accurate sequence of events.
After the examinations, the First Specialization Board of the Forensic Medicine Institute will issue a final opinion on the cause of death and possible third-party involvement. The report will guide any further prosecutorial steps.
